Music Festivals are a long-standing tradition within CPS. For over 90 years, these festivals have allowed students from across the city to perform prepared pieces and receive constructive feedback from established music adjudicators and clinicians.
We are pleased to announce that in school year 2020-21, the CPS Department of Arts Education has modified our Music Festivals to take place virtually! Students will attend instrument and voice-specific clinics and/or play live on Google Meet to receive feedback from college professors and musicians at leading arts organizations in Chicago, including:
- The Civic Orchestra of Chicago
- Chicago Symphony Chorus
- The Jazz Institute of Chicago
- Northern Illinois University
- Northeastern Illinois University
- University of Illinois at Chicago
With the generous assistance of local colleges and arts partners, we have developed a series of clinics that music students in Chicago Public Schools are able to attend for free. These weekend and after-school clinics, held between April 17th and May 15th, 2021, have been designed to support students at all levels of musical ability. They will be interactive—encouraging students to play along—and will also allow students to connect with other music students beyond their immediate school community.
Any student in grades 4–12 at any CPS school (district-managed, charter, contract, and options) may register for these virtual Music Festivals.
