While almost all CPS students have regular access to arts education, a number of CPS magnet elementary schools, as well as several high schools, offer rigorous curriculum and instruction specifically focused on the fine and performing arts. Nearly 43,000 students currently benefit from comprehensive, rigorous, rewarding arts learning experiences at 70 Fine & Performing Arts and STEAM schools.
Arts-Focused CPS Elementary Schools
CPS magnet schools and magnet cluster schools are specialized schools that specialize in a particular subject area and/or pedagogical practice. A number of elementary schools in the district are designated as Fine & Performing Arts and STEAM magnet and magnet cluster schools.
Arts-Focused High Schools
A number of CPS high schools offer students intensive studio experiences in the visual and performing arts, credits beyond the high school arts requirements, and an accelerated general-education curriculum that promotes a high level of college and career readiness.
Incubating Fine & Performing Arts and STEAM Schools
As part of the largest-ever program expansion initiative in district schools (beginning in SY18-19), a number of CPS elementary and high schools are awarded new Fine & Performing Arts and STEAM program distinctions each school year and join an incubating cohort of schools that receive district supports to grow and refine their programming.
