Literature for All of Us

Literature for All of Us is a not-for-profit organization that empowers teen parents and other underserved youth to transform their lives. Our innovative program blends reading and creative writing with discussion in weekly book groups that build confidence and create community. Literature for All of Us collaborates with alternative high schools, G.E.D. programs, and after-school programs in low-income neighborhoods to offer professionally-led weekly book groups that include discussion of a selected text, reading aloud, a poetry writing exercise, and sharing participants’ writing. Our book group model creates a safe space where young women and men can talk openly about their life experiences, which encourages resilience in response to difficult life circumstances, such as domestic partner violence, gangs, and drugs. Book Groups build a sense of solidarity and community, and book group leaders become trusted adults and role model to participants in the program.
