The stage is not merely the meeting place of all the arts, but it is also the return of art to life.
-Oscar Wilde
Welcome to the CPS Office of Arts Education Theater/Literary Arts page! As the Theater/Literary Arts Curriculum Supervisor I am pleased to introduce this resource. I have had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with a number of wonderfully talented and committed arts supporters in the CPS community. I hope to provide meaningful support for those whose work is often under appreciated.
For many years I have worked as an educator, artist and administrator and am honored to serve the CPS community. Theater and Literary Arts are great tools for self-expression and can provide a critical platform for quality learning experiences. Chicago is an exceptional theater and literary town because of the wealth of outstanding cultural organizations that serve our city. I hope that this site will serve to make bridges between principals, teachers, and the cultural community.
The teachers that I have worked with have demonstrated creativity, passion, and vision. Our students can be inspired to reach for their highest when met with high standards and strong programs. I would like to support those of you who are interested in deepening the ways in which theater and literary arts can influence our lives and the lives of our students.
Please feel free to share additional resources, comments, or questions with me or to share the events that are happening with your schools and organizations.
All the best to you,
Emily Hooper Lansana
Theater/Literary Arts Curriculum Supervisor
