Arts Intensives: Powerful Student-Centered Learning in the Arts

When we create arts learning experiences that are deeply responsive to student interests, needs, goals, and backgrounds, we spark their curiosity, unleash their imaginations, and plant the seeds for lifelong creative passions and practices. Three full-day, hands-on professional learning sessions in 2019-20 will allow you to explore the benefits (and challenges) of designing arts classrooms that encourage student voice, choice, and ownership over their learning.

Arts Communities of Practice (CoPs)

Time and time again, research shows that the most impactful professional learning is ongoing—learners need time to apply what they learn, work through challenges with peers, and fine-tune accordingly. Led by our Arts Instruction Specialists, these discipline- and grade-band-specific teacher groups will collaborate throughout the year to deepen, practice, and adapt their learning from Arts Intensives.

Arts Classroom Demonstration Sites (September–October 2019; February–March 2020)

Observing excellent, real-time teaching and learning is a great way to learn techniques and approaches to try in the classroom. In these sessions, Arts Instruction Specialists open their classrooms for other teachers to observe and discuss high-quality, standards-based practices.

Lesson Labs

Lesson Labs are arts learning sessions proposed, planned, and delivered by CPS teachers for CPS teachers. Learn about upcoming Labs or propose a Lab of your own:
