We are committed to supporting CPS teachers in refining and improving their arts education practices. Every year, we offer a number of engaging professional learning events in a variety of formats, tailored to the needs of our arts educators, advocates, and partners.
2020-21 Arts Professional Learning Sessions
All SY2020-21 arts professional learning events hosted by the CPS Department of Arts Education will be held remotely until further notice.
To help arts teachers prepare for remote learning at the start of the 2020-21 school year, the CPS Department of Arts Education is offering a full week of arts professional learning opportunities the week before school begins (Monday, August 31st – Friday, September 4th).
These districtwide sessions, focused on best instructional practices in arts education, allow CPS arts teachers to engage in interactive arts learning in their specific disciplines and grade bands, collaborate with peers to apply and reflect on demonstrated strategies, and acquire useful tools, techniques, and resources that can be immediately implemented in their classrooms.
Arts Communities of Practice (CoPs)
Time and time again, research shows that the most impactful professional learning is ongoing—learners need time to apply what they learn, work through challenges with peers, and fine-tune accordingly. Led by our Arts Instruction Specialists, these discipline- and grade-band-specific teacher groups will collaborate throughout the year to deepen, practice, and adapt their learning from Arts Intensives.
Arts Classroom Demonstration Sites
Observing excellent, real-time teaching and learning is a great way to learn techniques and approaches to try in the classroom. In these sessions, Arts Instruction Specialists open their classrooms for other teachers to observe and discuss high-quality, standards-based practices.
Arts Education Conference 2021
The Department of Arts Education is proud to partner with Ingenuity once again to present the 2021 Arts Education Conference on April 16, 2021.
