The Chicago Youth TheatreFest is an adjudicated event that strives to bring students from the city of Chicago together to observe, present, improve, and celebrate works of student theatre and connect students to college and career opportunities in the theatre arts. It is run entirely by volunteer CPS theatre educators and arts partners.

Any CPS school (district-managed, charter, contract, or options) is welcome to bring students grades 6–12 to TheatreFest. There are two divisions: High School (9–12) and Middle School (6–8).

Students who participate are exposed to a college-level theatre program and professional theatre organizations and can audition for college theatre programs, tour the host college campus, participate in theatre workshops, and receive feedback of their work from theatre professionals.

The fifth annual TheatreFest will take place on January 18, 2020 and will be hosted by University of Illinois Chicago.

Registration for the 2020 festival closes on December 6, 2020.
