In 2012, Chicago Public Schools Board of Education passed a resolution to support the CPS Arts Education Plan. Along with this resolution, they also adopted an update to the High School Fine Arts Graduation requirements, effective immediately. A student must take two total credits in two different disciplines, but four arts disciplines (Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Art) now satisfy the High School Fine Arts credits.

For example, a student can take one credit in dance and one in a studio art class and meet their graduation requirements. They cannot, however, take one credit of concert band and then a second credit of concert band to meet the requirements. The second credit would need to be in one of the other three disciplines (in this case, either Dance,Theatre, or Visual Art).
