In 2012, Chicago Public Schools Board of Education passed a resolution to support the CPS Arts Education Plan. Along with this resolution, they also adopted an update to the High School Fine Arts Graduation requirements, effective immediately. A student must take at least two credits chosen from four arts disciplines (Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Art) to now satisfy the High School Fine Arts credits.
For example, a student can take one credit in dance and one in a studio art class and meet their graduation requirements. They could also take one credit in a beginning choir, then a second credit in advanced choir. Students can also take more than two credits by utilizing their electives later in their high school career.
