The CPS Department of Arts Education (DAE) seeks teachers and teaching artists for the Advanced Arts Program (AAP) at Gallery 37. AAP is an off-campus high school magnet arts program that provides CPS high school juniors & seniors with year-long advanced arts courses in the heart of downtown Chicago. Courses are either two-credit honors or dual college credit; all courses count towards CPS graduation requirements.
AAP courses are team-taught by professional teaching artists and certified CPS teachers, all of whom report to AAP Administration.
The DAE seeks to hire the following AAP positions for the 2019-2020 School Year:
- Culinary Arts (CPS Teacher and Teaching Artist)
- Jazz (CPS Teacher and Teaching Artist)
- Theater (CPS Teacher and Teaching Artist)
Applications are due JULY 31st, 2019. Please download the packet below for more details about the position and how to apply.
More information about AAP
Students are accepted into the AAP program through auditions/interviews. Rising juniors and seniors (and occasionally, highly-motivated sophomores) from CPS district-managed, contract, charter, and options schools may apply.
AAP students engage in intense project-based learning experiences that include regular field trips to artists’ studios, museums, galleries, theaters and concert halls. They are given opportunities to perform and create art for a variety of public venues. AAP also provides career guidance and intensive post-secondary planning. Many prestigious and top-ranked colleges and universities recruit directly from AAP.
Classes meet five days a week from 2:45–4:45 pm for the entire school year at Gallery 37 Center for the Arts (66 East Randolph Street). Students receive free daily bus passes for round-trip transportation, and all course materials and equipment are provided.
There are two showcases of student work, one in the Winter (December) and one in the Spring (May).
If you have any further questions about AAP or applying to teach in the program, please contact the Advanced Arts Program staff at firstname.lastname@example.org or 312.742.1461.
