The Maria Saucedo Scholastic Academy Concert Band made history this year!!

The Saucedo Concert Band received a Division I Rating at the Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) District VII Organizational Band Competition on Saturday, March 19, 2016.  They were invited to advance to the Northern State Division Organizational Band Competition on Friday, April 22, 2016, in which they received the coveted title of Honor Status, the highest award given by IGSMA.

Out of 134 bands, orchestras and choirs that performed throughout this past Friday and Saturday, the Saucedo Concert Band was one of only 5 concert bands to be awarded this title of Honor Status.

This is a historic occasion.  In the 77-year history of IGSMA, Saucedo Academy is the first Chicago Public School to participate in both the district and state level competitions.  It is now the first Chicago Public School to receive both a Division I rating at the IGSMA District Level, as well as Honor Status at the State Level.

The Department of Arts Education would like to recognize director Carlos Ayento, as well as the Saucedo students and community, for this prestigious honor.
