This year’s professional learning for CPS arts teachers will begin with a full-day Arts Intensive at the Chicago Cultural Center! Join us on August 28th or 30th for the start of our most ambitious, in-depth, and responsive professional learning series yet with a focus on powerful student-centered learning in the arts.
ARTS INTENSIVE #1: DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ ARTISTIC IDENTITIES
When we create arts learning experiences that are deeply responsive to student interests, needs, goals, and backgrounds, we spark their curiosity, unleash their imaginations, and plant the seeds for lifelong creative passions and practices. At this session, you’ll:
- explore the key characteristics of learner-centered experiences
- engage in collaborative creation of lessons and activities that allow students to develop strong disciplinary identities
- acquire classroom tools and techniques that will encourage your students see themselves as capable and competent thinkers, learners, and makers of art
At the Intensive, you’ll also be able to join our brand-new discipline- and grade-band-specific Communities of Practice. Led by our Arts Instruction Specialists, these teacher groups will collaborate throughout the year to deepen, apply, and adapt Intensive learning.
