The Jazz Institute of Chicago

The work of the Jazz Institute of Chicago concentrates on ways to connect a vital American art from to the people whose lives and histories helped to create it. At the heart of this effort is the nurturing of young artists. The Jazz Links Educational Program strengthens community by integrating arts learning opportunities into the public school system. By directly supporting teachers’ efforts to maintain music programs, the Jazz Links initiative has had a positive impact on the lives of our future citizens and leaders: the Children of Chicago.

Jazz Links Educational Programs include the following: Jam sessions; Residencies; Jazz Links Student Council; Band Tours; Teacher’s Advisory Board; Chicago Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Links Mentorship Program; and the Kiewitt-Wang Mentorship Award.
