General education teachers in CPS often expand outside their content area to include experiences and opportunities in the arts. Some general education teachers even have extensive training in arts education. The Department of Arts Education encourages classroom teachers to engage in collaborative planning and teaching, and arts integration, to push student achievement in all subjects further and address multiple learning styles in innovative ways.

Chicago Guide for Teaching and Learning in the Arts
The district’s scope-and-sequence for the visual and performing arts is of value to classroom teachers, and to former certified and endorsed arts educators who have transitioned into a general education or non-arts classroom, as it provides a resource to strengthen arts integrated and arts-supported learning experiences and residencies. Additionally, the Guide should assist with connecting arts content to an already established scope-and-sequence or curriculum map for other content areas.
