Muntu Dance Theatre

Founded in 1972, Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago performs and teaches the dance, music and folklore of African cultures. The Company's core programs include professional performances both at home and abroad, classes for the public, and a comprehensive community arts program that includes lecture demonstrations, in-school residencies, interactive workshops, professional development and artistic training.

Our Arts for Community Empowerment (ACE) programs are educational teaching programs based on partnerships between Muntu, neighborhood and local residents, public, private, or nonprofit agencies or schools.  Any institution, organization, or group can invite Muntu to work with them in providing our services to a defined body of participants.  We collaborate in conceiving, designing and implementing services that respond to the unique needs of the area.  Our programs for youth are particularly popular and flexible enough to offer a range of choices.

Currently our ACE programs include: professional development, teacher & artist training, teacher resources, interactive workshops, parent workshops, visual arts & crafts, traditional African dance and music classes for all ages.
